Hadith text
Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The example of a Believer who recites the Qur'an, is that of a citron which smells good and tastes good; And the example of a Believer who does not recite the Qur'an, is that of a date which has no smell but tastes sweet; and the example of a hypocrite who recites the Qur'an, is that of an aromatic plant which smells good but tastes bitter; and the example of a hypocrite who does not recite the Qur'an, is that of a colocynth plant which has no smell and is bitter in taste
Abu Musa Al-Ashari bataate hain: Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ne farmaya, 'Us Momin ki misaal jo Quran padhta hai, turanj (phal) jaisi hai jiski khushbu bhi achhi hai aur zaayeka bhi achha. Aur us Momin ki misaal jo Quran nahi padhta, khajoor jaisi hai jiski koi khushbu nahi magar meetha zaayeka hai; aur us munafiq ki misaal jo Quran padhta hai, ek khushboodaar paudhe jaisi hai jiski khushbu achhi hai magar zaayeka kadwa; aur us munafiq ki misaal jo Quran nahi padhta, hanzal (kadwe phal) ke paudhe jaisi hai jiski koi khushbu nahi aur zaayeka kadwa hai.'
