Book 72: Hunting, Slaughtering · Hadith 4
Hadith text
Narrated Abu Tha`laba Al-Khushani:I said, "O Allah's Prophet! We are living in a land ruled by the people of the Scripture; Can we take our meals in their utensils? In that land there is plenty of game and I hunt the game with my bow and with my hound that is not trained and with my trained hound. Then what is lawful for me to eat?" He said, "As for what you have mentioned about the people of the Scripture, if you can get utensils other than theirs, do not eat out of theirs, but if you cannot get other than theirs, wash their utensils and eat out of it. If you hunt an animal with your bow after mentioning Allah's Name, eat of it. and if you hunt something with your trained hound after mentioning Allah's Name, eat of it, and if you hunt something with your untrained hound (and get it before it dies) and slaughter it, eat of it
Abu Thalaba Al-Khushani bataate hain: Maine kaha, 'Aye Allah ke Nabi! Hum aise ilaake mein rehte hain jahaan Ahl-e-Kitaab (Yahudi-Isaai) ki hukumat hai; kya hum unke bartanon mein khaana khaa sakte hain? Us zameen mein bahut shikaar hai aur main apne teer-kamaan se aur apne bina-trained kutte se aur apne trained kutte se shikaar karta hoon. To mere liye khaana kya jaayez hai?' Unhone farmaya, 'Jahaan tak Ahl-e-Kitaab ka sawaal hai, agar tumhein unke ilaawa bhi bartan mil sakte hain, to unke bartanon mein mat khaao, magar agar unke siwa kuch aur na mile, to unke bartan dho lo aur usmein khaao. Agar tum apne teer-kamaan se koi jaanwar shikaar karo Allah ka naam lene ke baad, to use khaao, aur agar apne trained kutte se koi jaanwar shikaar karo Allah ka naam lene ke baad, to use khaao, aur agar apne bina-trained kutte se koi jaanwar shikaar karo (aur use mrityu se pehle paakar) zibah kar do, to use khaao.'
