Sahih al-Bukhari 5672

Hadith text

Narrated Qais bin Abi Hazim:We went to pay a visit to Khabbab (who was sick) and he had been branded (cauterized) at seven places in his body. He said, "Our companions who died (during the lifetime of the Prophet) left (this world) without having their rewards reduced through enjoying the pleasures of this life, but we have got (so much) wealth that we find no way to spend It except on the construction of buildings Had the Prophet not forbidden us to wish for death, I would have wished for it.' We visited him for the second time while he was building a wall. He said, A Muslim is rewarded (in the Hereafter) for whatever he spends except for something that he spends on building

Qais bin Abi Hazim bataate hain: Hum Khabbab (jo bimar the) se milne gaye, aur unke jism par saat jagah daagh lagaaye gaye the. Unhone kaha, 'Hamare saathi jo (Nabi ki zindagi mein) intekaal kar gaye, wo is duniya ki khushiyaan uthaaye bagair, apna poora ajr paakar gaye, magar humein itni daulat mil gayi hai ke humein ise imaaraaton ke ilaawa kharch karne ka koi raasta nahi mil raha. Agar Nabi (SAW) ne humein maut ki tamanna karne se mana na kiya hota, to main iski tamanna karta.' Hum unse doosri baar milne gaye jab wo ek deewaar bana rahe the. Unhone kaha, 'Ek Musalmaan ko (Aakhirat mein) uske har kharch ka ajr milta hai siwaaye us cheez ke jo wo imaarat par kharch kare.'
