Hadith text

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:`Umar saw a silk suit being sold, so he said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Why don't you buy it so that you may wear it when delegates come to you, and also on Fridays?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "This is worn only by him who has no share in the Hereafter." Afterwards the Prophet (ﷺ) sent to `Umar a silk suit suitable for wearing. `Umar said to the Prophet, "You have given it to me to wear, yet I have heard you saying about it what you said?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I sent it to you so that you might either sell it or give it to somebody else to wear

Abdullah bin Umar bataate hain: Umar ne resham ka ek suit bikte dekha, to unhone kaha, 'Aye Allah ke Rasool! Aap ise kyun nahi khareedte taake jab aapke paas wafd (delegation) aayein ya Jumme ke din aap ise pehan sakein?' Nabi (SAW) ne kaha, 'Ise sirf wahi pehanta hai jiska Aakhirat mein koi hissa nahi.' Baad mein Nabi (SAW) ne Umar ko pehanne laayak resham ka ek suit bheja. Umar ne Nabi (SAW) se kaha, 'Aapne mujhe ye pehanne ke liye diya, jabke maine aapko iske baare mein wo kehte suna jo aapne kaha?' Nabi (SAW) ne kaha, 'Maine ye tumhein isliye bheja taake tum ise ya to bech do ya kisi aur ko pehanne ke liye de do.'
