Sahih al-Bukhari 6008

Hadith text

Narrated Abu Sulaiman and Malik bin Huwairith:We came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and we were (a few) young men of approximately equal age and stayed with him for twenty nights. Then he thought that we were anxious for our families, and he asked us whom we had left behind to look after our families, and we told him. He was kindhearted and merciful, so he said, "Return to your families and teach them (religious knowledge) and order them (to do good deeds) and offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayers, and when the stated time for the prayer becomes due, then one of you should pronounce its call (i.e. the Adhan), and the eldest of you should lead you in prayer

Abu Sulaiman aur Malik bin Huwairith bataate hain: Hum Nabi (SAW) ke paas aaye, aur hum kuch jawaan log the, taqreeban ek jaisi umar ke, aur unke saath bees raatein rahe. Phir unhein laga ke hum apne khaandaanon ke liye betaab hain, aur unhone humse pucha ke humne apne khaandaanon ki dekhbhaal ke liye kise chhoda hai, aur humne unhein bataaya. Wo dil se naram aur meherbaan the, isliye unhone kaha, 'Apne khaandaanon ke paas wapas jaao aur unhein (deeni ilm) sikhaao aur unhein (nek amaal karne ka) hukm do, aur namaz usi tarah padho jaise tumne mujhe padhte dekha, aur jab namaz ka muqarrar waqt aa jaaye, to tum mein se ek Azaan de, aur tum mein se jo sabse bada ho wo Imamat kare.'
