Hadith text
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:Once the Prophet (ﷺ) went through the grave-yards of Medina and heard the voices of two humans who were being tortured in their graves. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "They are being punished, but they are not being punished because of a major sin, yet their sins are great. One of them used not to save himself from (being soiled with) the urine, and the other used to go about with calumnies (Namima)." Then the Prophet asked for a green palm tree leaf and split it into two pieces and placed one piece on each grave, saying, "I hope that their punishment may be abated as long as these pieces of the leaf are not dried
Ibn Abbas bataate hain: Ek baar Nabi (SAW) Madina ke qabristanon se guzre aur unhone do logon ki aawazein suni jinhein unki qabron mein azaab diya jaa raha tha. Nabi (SAW) ne farmaya, 'Unhein saza di jaa rahi hai, magar kisi bade gunaah ke liye nahi, phir bhi unke gunaah bade hain. Unmein se ek apne peshaab se khud ko bachaane ka khayaal nahi rakhta tha, aur doosra chugalkhori (Namima) karta phirta tha.' Phir Nabi (SAW) ne khajoor ke darakht ka ek hara patta maangaya, use do tukdon mein toda, aur ek-ek tukda har qabr par rakha, aur kaha, 'Ummeed hai ke unka azaab tab tak kam kiya jaayega jab tak ye patton ke tukde sookhe nahi hain.'
