Sahih al-Bukhari 6144

Hadith text

Narrated Ibn `Umar:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Inform me of a tree which resembles a Muslim, giving its fruits at every season by the permission of its Lord, and the leaves of which do not fall." I thought of the date-palm tree, but I disliked to speak because Abu Bakr and `Umar were present there. When nobody spoke, the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It is the date-palm tree" When I came out with my father, I said, "O father! It came to my mind that it was the date-palm tree." He said, "What prevented you from saying it?" Had you said it, it would have been more dearer to me than such-and-such a thing (fortune)." I said, "Nothing prevented me but the fact that neither you nor Abu Bakr spoke, so I disliked to speak (in your presence)

Ibn Umar bataate hain: Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ne farmaya, 'Mujhe ek aise darakht ke baare mein bataao jo Musalmaan jaisa hai, apne Rab ki ijaazat se har mausam mein phal deta hai, aur jiske patte nahi jhadte.' Maine khajoor ke darakht ke baare mein socha, magar mujhe bolna napasand tha kyunke Abu Bakr aur Umar wahaan maujood the. Jab koi nahi bola, Nabi (SAW) ne kaha, 'Ye khajoor ka darakht hai.' Jab main apne waalid ke saath baahar aaya, maine kaha, 'Aye waalid! Mere zehen mein ye baat aayi thi ke ye khajoor ka darakht hai.' Unhone kaha, 'Tumhein kehne se kis cheez ne roka? Agar tum kehte, to mujhe wo falaan-falaan cheez (daulat) se bhi zyaada pyaara lagta.' Maine kaha, 'Mujhe sirf isliye roka gaya kyunke na aap na Abu Bakr bole, isliye mujhe (aapki maujoodgi mein) bolna napasand tha.'
