Hadith text
Narrated Al-Harith bin Suwaid:`Abdullah bin Mas`ud related to us two narrations: One from the Prophet (ﷺ) and the other from himself, saying: A believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain which, he is afraid, may fall on him; whereas the wicked person considers his sins as flies passing over his nose and he just drives them away like this." Abu Shihab (the sub-narrator) moved his hand over his nose in illustration. (Ibn Mas`ud added): Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than a man who encamps at a place where his life is jeopardized, but he has his riding beast carrying his food and water. He then rests his head and sleeps for a short while and wakes to find his riding beast gone. (He starts looking for it) and suffers from severe heat and thirst or what Allah wished (him to suffer from). He then says, 'I will go back to my place.' He returns and sleeps again, and then (getting up), he raises his head to find his riding beast standing beside him
Al-Harith bin Suwaid bataate hain: Abdullah bin Masud ne humein do riwaayaten sunaayi: Ek Nabi (SAW) se, aur doosri apni taraf se, kehte hue: 'Momin apne gunaahon ko aise dekhta hai jaise wo ek pahaad ke neeche baitha ho, jisse darta hai ke wo uspar gir jaayega; jabke badkaar shaks apne gunaahon ko aisi machhariyon jaisa samajhta hai jo uski naak se guzarti hain aur wo unhein aise hi udaa deta hai.' (Ravi Abu Shihab ne apna haath apni naak par phera ye dikhaane ke liye.) (Ibn Masud ne izaafa kiya:) Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ne farmaya, 'Allah apne bande ki tauba se us aadmi se bhi zyaada khush hota hai jo aise jagah pada hua ho jahaan uski jaan khatre mein ho, magar uski sawaari uska khaana aur paani leke jaa rahi ho. Phir wo apna sar rakhta hai aur thodi der so jaata hai, aur jaagta hai to paata hai uski sawaari chali gayi hai. (Wo use dhoondhta hai) aur sakht garmi ya pyaas se pareshaan hota hai ya jo Allah chahe. Phir wo kehta hai, "Main apni jagah wapas jaunga." Wo wapas jaata hai aur dobara so jaata hai, aur phir (uthkar) apna sar uthaata hai to paata hai uski sawaari uske paas khadi hai.'
