Sahih al-Bukhari 6459

Hadith text

Narrated `Aisha:that she said to `Urwa, "O, the son of my sister! We used to see three crescents in two months, and no fire used to be made in the houses of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (i.e. nothing used to be cooked)." `Urwa said, "What used to sustain you?" `Aisha said, "The two black things i.e. dates and water, except that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had neighbors from the Ansar who had some milch she-camels, and they used to give the Prophet (ﷺ) some milk from their house, and he used to make us drink it

Aisha ne Urwa se kaha, 'Aye mere behen ke bete! Hum do maheenon mein teen chaand dekha karte the, aur Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ke gharon mein aag nahi jalti thi (yaani kuch nahi pakaaya jaata tha).' Urwa ne pucha, 'To phir aap logon ka guzara kaise hota tha?' Aisha ne kaha, 'Do kaali cheezein: khajoor aur paani, siwaaye is ke ke Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ke Ansaar mein se kuch padosi the jinke paas doodh dene wali oontniyaan thin, aur wo Nabi (SAW) ko apne ghar se kuch doodh dete, aur wo humein wo doodh pilaate.'
