Sahih al-Bukhari 6470

Hadith text

Narrated Abu Sa`id:Some people from the Ansar asked Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (to give them something) and he gave to everyone of them, who asked him, until all that he had was finished. When everything was finished and he had spent all that was in his hand, he said to them, '"(Know) that if I have any wealth, I will not withhold it from you (to keep for somebody else); And (know) that he who refrains from begging others (or doing prohibited deeds), Allah will make him contented and not in need of others; and he who remains patient, Allah will bestow patience upon him, and he who is satisfied with what he has, Allah will make him self-sufficient. And there is no gift better and vast (you may be given) than patience

Abu Saeed bataate hain: Kuch Ansaar logon ne Allah ke Rasool (SAW) se (kuch maangte hue) darkhwaast ki, aur unhone har us shaks ko diya jisne unse maanga, yahaan tak ke unke paas jo kuch tha wo khatam ho gaya. Jab sab kuch khatam ho gaya aur unhone apne haath mein jo tha wo sab kharch kar diya, unhone unse kaha, '(Jaan lo ke) agar mere paas koi daulat ho, to main use tumse rokunga nahi; aur (jaan lo ke) jo koi doosron se maangne se bachta hai (ya mana kaamon se bachta hai), Allah use santusht aur be-niyaaz bana dega; aur jo sabra karta hai, Allah use sabra ata karega, aur jo apne paas jo hai usse santusht hai, Allah use khud-kifaayat bana dega. Aur sabra se behtar aur vasee koi tohfa nahi (jo tumhein diya jaa sakta hai).'
