Book 85: Laws of Inheritance (Al-Faraa'id) · Hadith 1

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ يَقُولُ مَرِضْتُ فَعَادَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَهُمَا مَاشِيَانِ، فَأَتَانِي وَقَدْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَىَّ فَتَوَضَّأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَصَبَّ عَلَىَّ وَضُوءَهُ فَأَفَقْتُ‏.‏ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ فِي مَالِي، كَيْفَ أَقْضِي فِي مَالِي فَلَمْ يُجِبْنِي بِشَىْءٍ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْمَوَارِيثِ‏.‏

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:I became sick so Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and Abu Bakr came on foot to pay me a visit. When they came, I was unconscious. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) performed ablution and he poured over me the water (of his ablution) and I came to my senses and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! What shall I do regarding my property? How shall I distribute it?" The Prophet (ﷺ) did not reply till the Divine Verses of inheritance were revealed

Jabir bin Abdullah bataate hain: Main bimar ho gaya, isliye Allah ke Rasool (SAW) aur Abu Bakr paidal mujhse milne aaye. Jab wo aaye, main behosh tha. Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ne wuzu kiya aur wo (wuzu ka) paani mujhpar daala aur mujhe hosh aa gaya, aur maine kaha, 'Aye Allah ke Rasool! Main apni jaayadaad ke baare mein kya karoon? Main use kaise baantoon?' Nabi (SAW) ne koi jawab nahi diya jab tak Miraas (waraasat) ki Ilaahi Aayaten naazil nahi hui.
