Book 86: Limits and Punishments set by Allah (Hudood) · Hadith 16

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ أُسَامَةَ، كَلَّمَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي امْرَأَةٍ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُقِيمُونَ الْحَدَّ عَلَى الْوَضِيعِ، وَيَتْرُكُونَ الشَّرِيفَ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ فَاطِمَةُ فَعَلَتْ ذَلِكَ لَقَطَعْتُ يَدَهَا ‏"‏‏.‏

Narrated `Aisha:Usama approached the Prophet (ﷺ) on behalf of a woman (who had committed theft). The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The people before you were destroyed because they used to inflict the legal punishments on the poor and forgive the rich. By Him in Whose Hand my soul is! If Fatima (the daughter of the Prophet (ﷺ) ) did that (i.e. stole), I would cut off her hand

Aisha bataati hain: Usama ek khaatoon (jisne chori ki thi) ki taraf se Nabi (SAW) se guhaar lagaane aaye. Nabi (SAW) ne kaha, 'Tumse pehle ke log tabaah ho gaye kyunke wo gareebon ko qanooni saza dete the aur ameeron ko maaf kar dete the. Us Zaat ki qasam jiske haath mein meri jaan hai! Agar Fatima (Nabi ki beti) ne aisa (yaani chori) kiya hota, to main uska haath kaat deta.'
