Sahih al-Bukhari 6788

Hadith text

Narrated `Aisha:The Quraish people became very worried about the Makhzumiya lady who had committed theft. They said, "Nobody can speak (in favor of the lady) to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and nobody dares do that except Usama who is the favorite of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). " When Usama spoke to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about that matter, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Do you intercede (with me) to violate one of the legal punishment of Allah?" Then he got up and addressed the people, saying, "O people! The nations before you went astray because if a noble person committed theft, they used to leave him, but if a weak person among them committed theft, they used to inflict the legal punishment on him. By Allah, if Fatima, the daughter of Muhammad committed theft, Muhammad will cut off her hand

Aisha bataati hain: Quraish qabeele ke log Makhzumiya khaatoon (jisne chori ki thi) ke baare mein bahut pareshaan the. Unhone kaha, 'Koi bhi (khaatoon ke haq mein) Allah ke Rasool (SAW) se baat nahi kar sakta, aur koi bhi aisa karne ki himmat nahi karta siwaaye Usama ke jo Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ke sabse pyaare hain.' Jab Usama ne Allah ke Rasool (SAW) se is baare mein baat ki, Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ne kaha, 'Kya tum Allah ki muqarrar kanooni saza torvaane ki sifaarish karte ho (mujhse)?' Phir wo uthe aur logon se khitaab karte hue kaha, 'Aye logo! Tumse pehle ki qaumein isliye bhatak gayin kyunke agar koi izzatdaar aadmi chori karta, wo use chhod dete, magar agar koi kamzor aadmi unmein se chori karta, wo use qanooni saza dete. Allah ki qasam, agar Muhammad ki beti Fatima ne chori ki hoti, to Muhammad uska haath kaat dete.'
