Sahih al-Bukhari 6829

Hadith text

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:`Umar said, "I am afraid that after a long time has passed, people may say, "We do not find the Verses of the Rajam (stoning to death) in the Holy Book," and consequently they may go astray by leaving an obligation that Allah has revealed. Lo! I confirm that the penalty of Rajam be inflicted on him who commits illegal sexual intercourse, if he is already married and the crime is proved by witnesses or pregnancy or confession." Sufyan added, "I have memorized this narration in this way." `Umar added, "Surely Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) carried out the penalty of Rajam, and so did we after him

Ibn Abbas bataate hain: Umar ne kaha, 'Mujhe dar hai ke lambi muddat guzarne ke baad, log kahenge, "Humein Rajam (sangsaar) ki Aayaten paak Kitaab mein nahi milti," aur isse wo bhatak jaayenge is farz ko chhod kar jo Allah ne naazil kiya hai. Suno! Main tasdeeq karta hoon ke Rajam ki saza us shaks par lagaayi jaaye jo zina kare, agar wo pehle se shaadi-shuda ho aur jurm gawaahon, ya hamal, ya iqbaal se saabit ho.' Sufyan ne izaafa kiya, 'Maine ye riwaayat isi tarah yaad ki hai.' Umar ne izaafa kiya, 'Beshak, Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ne Rajam ki saza di, aur humne bhi unke baad di.'
