Hadith text

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:Lian was mentioned in the presence of the Prophet, `Asim bin Adi said a statement about it, and when he left, a man from his tribe came to him complaining that he had seen a man with his wife. `Asim said, "I have been put to trial only because of my statement." So he took the man to the Prophet (ﷺ) and the man told him about the incident. The man (husband) was of yellow complexion, thin, and of lank hair, while the man whom he had accused of having been with his wife, was reddish brown with fat thick legs and fat body. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O Allah! Reveal the truth." Later on the lady delivered a child resembling the man whom the husband had accused of having been with her. So the Prophet (ﷺ) made them take the oath of Lian. A man said to Ibn `Abbas in the gathering, "Was that the same lady about whom the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If I were to stone any lady (for committing illegal sexual intercourse) to death without witnesses, I would have stoned that lade to death?" Ibn `Abbas said, "No, that was another lady who used to behave in such a suspicious way among the Muslims that one might accuse her of committing illegal sexual intercourse

Ibn Abbas bataate hain: Li'an ka zikr Nabi (SAW) ki maujoodgi mein hua, Aasim bin Adi ne uske baare mein ek baat kahi, aur jab wo chale gaye, unke qabeele ka ek shaks unke paas shikaayat lekar aaya ke usne apni biwi ke saath ek aadmi ko dekha hai. Aasim ne kaha, 'Mujhe sirf apni baat ki wajah se azmaaish mein daala gaya hai.' To wo aadmi ko Nabi (SAW) ke paas le gaye aur us aadmi ne unhein waaqia bataaya. Wo aadmi (shohar) peela rang, patla, aur seedhe baalon wala tha, jabke jis aadmi par usne apni biwi ke saath hone ka ilzaam lagaaya tha, wo laali maayel bhoora, mote patte pairon aur mote jism wala tha. Nabi (SAW) ne kaha, 'Aye Allah! Haqeeqat zaahir kar.' Baad mein khaatoon ne ek bacha janm diya jo us aadmi se milta-julta tha jispar shohar ne ilzaam lagaaya tha. To Nabi (SAW) ne unhein Li'an ki qasam lene ko kaha. Majlis mein ek shaks ne Ibn Abbas se kaha, 'Kya ye wahi khaatoon thi jinke baare mein Nabi (SAW) ne kaha, "Agar main kisi khaatoon ko (zina karne ke liye) bina gawaahon ke sangsaar karta, to main us khaatoon ko sangsaar karta"?' Ibn Abbas ne kaha, 'Nahi, wo ek doosri khaatoon thi jo Musalmaanon ke beech aisi shakki tareeke se suluk karti thi ke koi bhi uspar zina ka ilzaam laga sakta tha.'
