Hadith text
Narrated 'Abdullah: Nafi narrated to me that 'Abdullah said that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade the Shighar. I asked Nafi', "What is the Shighar?" He said, "It is to marry the daughter of a man and marry one's daughter to that man (at the same time) without Mahr (in both cases); or to marry the sister of a man and marry one's own sister to that man without Mahr." Some people said, "If one, by a trick, marries on the basis of Shighar, the marriage is valid but its condition is illegal." The same scholar said regarding Al-Mut'a, "The marriage is invalid and its condition is illegal." Some others said, "The Mut'a and the Shighar are permissible but the condition is illegal
Abdullah bataate hain: Nafi' ne mujhe bataaya ke Abdullah ne kaha ke Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ne Shighar se mana kiya. Maine Nafi' se pucha, 'Shighar kya hai?' Unhone kaha, 'Ye ek aadmi ki beti se shaadi karna aur apni beti ki us aadmi se shaadi karna hai (usi waqt), bina Mahr ke (dono maamlon mein); ya ek aadmi ki behen se shaadi karna aur apni behen ki us aadmi se shaadi karna hai bina Mahr ke.' Kuch logon ne kaha, 'Agar koi chaal se Shighar ke aadhaar par shaadi kare, to shaadi valid hai magar uski shart na-jaayez hai.' Isi aalim ne Al-Mut'a (kuch waqt ke liye shaadi) ke baare mein kaha, 'Shaadi na-jaayez hai aur uski shart bhi na-jaayez hai.' Kuch aur logon ne kaha, 'Mut'a aur Shighar dono jaayez hain magar shart na-jaayez hai.'
