Hadith text

Narrated Abu Humaid As-Sa`idi:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) appointed a man called Ibn Al-Lutabiyya to collect the Zakat from Bani Sulaim's tribe. When he returned, the Prophet (ﷺ) called him to account. He said (to the Prophet, 'This is your money, and this has been given to me as a gift." On that, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Why didn't you stay in your father's and mother's house to see whether you will be given gifts or not if you are telling the truth?" Then the Prophet (ﷺ) addressed us, and after praising and glorifying Allah, he said: "Amma Ba'du", I employ a man from among you to manage some affair of what Allah has put under my custody, and then he comes to me and says, 'This is your money and this has been given to me as a gift. Why didn't he stay in his father's and mother's home to see whether he will be given gifts or not? By Allah, not anyone of you takes a thing unlawfully but he will meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection, carrying that thing. I do not want to see any of you carrying a grunting camel or a mooing cow or a bleating sheep on meeting Allah." Then the Prophet (ﷺ) raised both his hands till the whiteness of his armpits became visible, and he said, "O Allah! Haven't I have conveyed (Your Message)?" Abu Humaid As-Sa'idi bataate hain: Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ne Ibn Al-Lutabiyya naami ek shaks ko Banu Sulaim qabeele se Zakat jama karne ke liye muqarrar kiya. Jab wo wapas aaya, Nabi (SAW) ne unse hisaab maanga. Usne (Nabi se) kaha, 'Ye aapka paisa hai, aur ye mujhe tohfe mein diya gaya hai.' Isper, Allah ke Rasool (SAW) ne kaha, 'Tum apne waalid ya apni maa ke ghar kyun nahi rahe ye dekhne ke liye ke tumhein tohfe milte hain ya nahi, agar tum sach kehte ho?' Phir Nabi (SAW) ne humse khitaab kiya, aur Allah ki tareef aur hamd karne ke baad, unhone kaha: 'Amma Ba'du,' 'Main tum mein se ek aadmi ko kisi kaam ki zimmedaari deta hoon jo Allah ne mere sapurd kiya hai, aur phir wo mere paas aakar kehta hai, "Ye aapka paisa hai aur ye mujhe tohfe mein diya gaya hai." Wo apne waalid ya apni maa ke ghar kyun nahi raha ye dekhne ke liye ke use tohfe milte hain ya nahi? Allah ki qasam, tum mein se koi bhi koi cheez na-jaayez taur par nahi leta magar wo use Qayamat ke din Allah ke saamne uthaakar laayega. Main nahi chaahta ke tum mein se koi bhi Allah se mulaaqaat karte waqt ek bulbulaata hua oont, ya raambhati hui gaay, ya bhen-bhenaati bakri uthaaye ho.' Phir Nabi (SAW) ne apne dono haath itne ooncha uthaaye ke unki baaghal ki safedi zaahir ho gayi, aur unhone kaha, 'Aye Allah! Kya maine (tera paighaam) pahuncha diya?' Ravi ne izaafa kiya: Meri aankhon ne dekha aur mere kaanon ne suna (ye Hadees).
