Hadith text
Narrated Abu Al-Aswad:An army unit was being recruited from the people of Medina and my name was written among them. Then I met `Ikrima, and when I informed him about it, he discouraged me very strongly and said, "Ibn `Abbas told me that there were some Muslims who were with the pagans to increase their number against Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (and the Muslim army) so arrows (from the Muslim army) would hit one of them and kill him or a Muslim would strike him (with his sword) and kill him. So Allah revealed:-- 'Verily! As for those whom the angels take (in death) while they are wronging themselves (by staying among the disbelievers)
Abu Al-Aswad bataate hain: Ek fauji dasta Madina ke logon mein se bharti kiya jaa raha tha aur mera naam bhi unmein likha gaya. Phir main Ikrima se mila, aur jab maine unhein iske baare mein bataaya, unhone mujhe bahut sakhti se rokne ki koshish ki aur kaha, 'Ibn Abbas ne mujhe bataaya ke kuch Musalmaan mushrikon ke saath the taake unki tadaad Allah ke Rasool (SAW) (aur Musalmaan fauj) ke khilaaf badh sake, isliye (Musalmaan fauj ke) teer unmein se kisi ko lagte aur use qatl kar dete, ya koi Musalmaan use (apni talwaar se) maar kar qatl kar deta. To Allah ne naazil kiya: "Beshak! Un logon ke baare mein jinhein farishte (maut mein) uthaate hain jabke wo khud par zulm kar rahe hote hain (kaafiron ke beech rehkar)..." (4:97)'
