Hadith text
Narrated Abu Wail:I sat with Shaiba in this Mosque (Al-Masjid-Al-Haram), and he said, "`Umar once sat beside me here as you are now sitting, and said, 'I feel like distributing all the gold and silver that are in it (i.e., the Ka`ba) among the Muslims'. I said, 'You cannot do that.' `Umar said, 'Why?' I said, 'Your two (previous) companions (the Prophet (ﷺ) and Abu Bakr) did not do it. `Umar said, 'They are the two persons whom one must follow.'" (See Hadith No. 664, Vol)
Abu Wail bataate hain: Main Shaiba ke saath is Masjid (Al-Masjid-Al-Haram) mein baitha, aur unhone kaha, 'Ek baar Umar mere paas baithe the jaise tum abhi baithe ho, aur unhone kaha, "Mera dil chahta hai ke main iske andar (yaani Kaaba mein) jitna bhi sona aur chaandi hai wo Musalmaanon mein baant doon." Maine kaha, "Aap aisa nahi kar sakte." Umar ne pucha, "Kyun?" Maine jawab diya, "Aapke do (pehle) saathiyon (yaani Nabi SAW aur Abu Bakr) ne aisa nahi kiya." Umar ne kaha, "Wo do log hain jinki pairvi honi chaahiye."' (Poori tafseel ke liye Hadees No. 664, Jild dekhein.)
