Hadith text
Narrated Ubaidullah:Ibn `Abbas said, "Why do you ask the people of the scripture about anything while your Book (Qur'an) which has been revealed to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) is newer and the latest? You read it pure, undistorted and unchanged, and Allah has told you that the people of the scripture (Jews and Christians) changed their scripture and distorted it, and wrote the scripture with their own hands and said, 'It is from Allah,' to sell it for a little gain. Does not the knowledge which has come to you prevent you from asking them about anything? No, by Allah, we have never seen any man from them asking you regarding what has been revealed to you
Ubaidullah bataate hain: Ibn Abbas ne kaha, 'Tum Ahl-e-Kitaab se kisi bhi baat ke baare mein kyun poochte ho jabke tumhaari khud ki Kitaab (Quran), jo Allah ke Rasool (SAW) par naazil hui hai, sabse nayi aur sabse aakhri hai? Tum ise saaf, gair-tehrif-shuda, aur badal na jaane wali padhte ho, aur Allah ne tumhein bataya hai ke Ahl-e-Kitaab (Yahudi aur Isaai) ne apni Kitaab badal di aur use tehrif kiya, aur apne haathon se Kitaab likhi aur kaha, "Ye Allah ki taraf se hai," taake thodi si kamaayi ke badle ise bech sakein. Kya jo ilm tumhaare paas aa gaya hai wo tumhein unse kuch bhi poochne se nahi rokta? Nahi, Allah ki qasam, humne kabhi unmein se kisi ko tumse ye poochte nahi dekha jo tumpar naazil hua hai.'
