Sahih al-Bukhari 7521

Hadith text

Narrated `Abdullah:Two person of Bani Thaqif and one from Quraish (or two persons from Quraish and one from Bani Thaqif) who had fat bellies but little wisdom, met near the Ka`ba. One of them said, "Did you see that Allah hears what we say? " The other said, "He hears us if we speak aloud, but He does not hear if we speak in stealthy quietness (softly)." The third fellow said, "If He hears when we speak aloud, then He surely hears us if we speak in stealthy quietness (softly)." So Allah revealed the Verse:-- 'And you have not been screening against yourselves, lest your ears, and your eyes and your skins should testify against you

Abdullah bataate hain: Banu Thaqif ke do log aur Quraish ka ek shaks (ya Quraish ke do log aur Banu Thaqif ka ek shaks), jinke motay pet the magar kam samajh, Kaaba ke qareeb mile. Unmein se ek ne kaha, 'Kya tumne dekha ke Allah wo sunta hai jo hum kehte hain?' Doosre ne kaha, 'Wo humein sunta hai agar hum oonchi awaaz mein bolein, magar wo nahi sunta agar hum chupke se dheeme (aahista) bolein.' Teesre shaks ne kaha, 'Agar wo oonchi awaaz mein bolne par sunta hai, to wo zaroor humein dheeme bolne par bhi sunega.' To Allah ne ye Aayat naazil ki: 'Aur tum apne aap ko chhupaate (parde mein rakhte) nahi the, is dar se ke tumhaare kaan, tumhaari aankhein, aur tumhaari khaal tumhaare khilaaf gawaahi de sakti hain...'
