Hadith text

Narrated 'Ubaidullah bin `Abdullah:`Abdullah bin `Abbas said, "O the group of Muslims! How can you ask the people of the Scriptures about anything while your Book which Allah has revealed to your Prophet contains the most recent news from Allah and is pure and not distorted? Allah has told you that the people of the Scriptures have changed some of Allah's Books and distorted it and wrote something with their own hands and said, 'This is from Allah, so as to have a minor gain for it. Won't the knowledge that has come to you stop you from asking them? No, by Allah, we have never seen a man from them asking you about that (the Book Al-Qur'an ) which has been revealed to you

Ubaidullah bin Abdullah bataate hain: Abdullah bin Abbas ne kaha, 'Aye Musalmaanon ke giroh! Tum Ahl-e-Kitaab se kisi bhi baat ke baare mein kaise poochh sakte ho jabke tumhaari khud ki Kitaab, jo Allah ne tumhaare Nabi par naazil ki hai, sabse taazi khabar rakhti hai Allah ki taraf se aur saaf hai, tehrif-shuda nahi? Allah ne tumhein bataya hai ke Ahl-e-Kitaab ne Allah ki kuch Kitaabon mein badlaav kiya aur tehrif ki aur apne khud ke haathon se kuch likha aur kaha, "Ye Allah ki taraf se hai," taake isse ek chhota faayda ho sake. Kya jo ilm tumhaare paas aa gaya hai, wo tumhein unse kuch poochne se nahi rokta? Nahi, Allah ki qasam, humne kabhi unmein se kisi ko tumse ye poochte nahi dekha jo tumpar naazil hua hai (yaani Quran).'
